Help — Tag Manager

Overview

Tag Manager lets you view, add, and remove tags on every Microsoft Places resource type — buildings, floors, sections, rooms, workspaces, and desks — either one at a time or in bulk across a selection.

Individual tags

  • Click the × on any tag chip to remove that single tag from a resource.
  • Click + tag on a row, type a tag name, and press Enter to add it.
  • Changes are saved immediately via the Graph API — there's no separate save step.

Bulk tags

  • Tick the checkbox on any row (or use Select all visible) to build a selection.
  • Enter one or more comma-separated tags, then click Add Tag(s) or Remove Tag(s).
  • Each resource is updated individually with a live progress indicator; a downloadable log records the result for every resource.

Because Microsoft Graph replaces a resource's entire tag list on every update, Tag Manager always reads each resource's current tags first and merges your change in — existing tags are never accidentally wiped.

Report tab

Shows how many resources (and of which type) carry each tag across your whole Places directory. Useful for auditing naming consistency or finding orphaned/rarely-used tags. Exportable to CSV.

Permissions required

  • User.Read — identifies the signed-in user
  • Place.Read.All — reads all resources and their current tags
  • Place.ReadWrite.All — required to add or remove tags

All three permissions require admin consent from your Microsoft 365 tenant administrator.
